Wall and Floor Tiles

2021 was a year of great challenges for the Wall and Floor Tiles Business. Its ability to adapt and respond correctly to consumers’ changing demands was tested once again, in an environment where home remodeling continued to be an important source of growth.

The Wall and Floor Tiles Business’s 2021 sales amounted to $21,610 million pesos, 47% above the previous year. This extraordinary growth was driven by greater demand for its products, not only in Mexico, but also in all the regions where the business operates, and by the incorporation of Grupo Roca’s tile operations as of September.

The environment of great uncertainty due to the pandemic generated global imbalances in 2021, resulting in increases in the price of the segment’s main inputs, including freight, raw materials and energy. However, the new dynamics of its different markets also created opportunities, which the business unit successfully leveraged.

During the year, many of the segment’s indicators, including sales, production and earnings, reached historical records, as it continued to move forward with the growth and diversification strategy implemented in recent years.

Among its important 2021 achievements was the closing of the acquisition of Eurocerámica in Colombia, in a transaction that had begun at the end of 2020. The acquisition positions it to capitalize on synergies and strengthen the position it already has in that nation through Cerámica San Lorenzo.

Additionally, during the third quarter of the year, Grupo Lamosa acquired Grupo Roca’s tile business, which has operations in important ceramics markets such as Spain, Brazil and the United States. This acquisition opens up very important avenues of growth for the business, since, in addition to strengthening its presence in the Americas, it enables it to expand its operations into Spain, in turn positioning it to increase the presence of its products in Europe, North Africa and the Asian market.

Another important achievement of the Wall and Floor Tiles Business during the year was being declared “Overall Best in the Show” during its participation in Expo Coverings 2021, in the city of Orlando, Florida, in the United States. Factors that contributed to this success, the highest recognition at one of the world’s most important tile and stone fairs, included the launch of porcelain products in different contemporary styles, reflecting the biophilic architectural trend that seeks to bring the natural world into urban and interior spaces.

Looking to promote the talent of architects and interior designers in Mexico, while highlighting the extensive portfolio of high-value products of the Firenze line, the 2021 Firenze Entremuros Awards were presented in Mexico City during the month of November. This was the fifth edition of the awards, which have become a benchmark for showcasing the best in Mexican architecture.

The results the Wall and Floor Tiles Business achieved throughout the year endorse its commitment to continue reinventing itself every day, in order to offer sophisticated products, with avant-garde designs, in world-class formats and textures, and made with the industry’s most advanced technology.
